Hi, my name is Kate and I am a Work At Home Mum (WAHM) of two little girls called Jade and Amber. We live in Cornwall, UK with Matthew (hubby & daddy) and our cat Houdini (called Dini for short – girl cat but we didn’t know at the time) and we are a 20 minute drive to our closest beach 😀
My inspiration comes from my girls and the area we live in. I started making baby clothes when Amber was a baby as even though I had all of Jade’s clothes to dress her in, I wanted her to have something of her own too – but all the clothes in the shop just looked well … the same as everyone else was wearing and they were (at that time) all in greys and pastel pinks for girls (yuk!). I really love colours and the brighter the better! So, I decided that I would create some cool and funky designs of my own and then hit upon the idea to sell them too! 😀 Now I tie dye baby clothes, childrenswear and even adults too! You can see my range of clothes on my website www.dillasbaban.com and I exhibit at lots of fairs in my local counties of Cornwall and Devon. So that’s my bit about the clothes, but what does that have to do with Cornish Fae and Pixie Dust? Well, I have always been a creative bunny, from raiding my mum’s button box from an early age to making jewellery (I think my mum got fed up of me raiding the button box and so one year bought me a bead box instead ;D), plus I used to knit toys for my younger siblings as I didn’t have money to buy gifts when I was a teenager and I loved to make things. I still love to make things, I’m at my happiest when I’m knee deep in fabrics of all varieties and very often (ok, all the time! :D) I will buy fabric before I even know what I’m going to make with it – hence why my workroom is floor to ceiling packed with fabric bundles (plus my books – but that’s a story for another day). I love making all sorts of things from useful things for the home to clothes and accessories plus toys. I love using natural fabrics like bamboo and cotton as Matthew has eczema and Amber has really sensitive skin, and bamboo is just perfect for sensitive skin! It is so soft and snuggly and helps to heal the skin too – I could write a blog on that alone! 😀
Both myself and the girls love Tinkerbell – and over Christmas we watched the Peter Pan animation where Captain Hook kidnaps Wendy’s Daughter and to cut a long story short (you have to watch the film!) she steps off the top of a mast saying ‘All you need is Faith, Trust and Pixie Dust!’ and then flies (with the help of Tinkerbell’s Pixie Dust of course). Anyway I thought, what a great message for life to live by? But I thought that actually calling my blog Faith Trust and Pixie Dust might infringe on some Disney copyrights 😀 So I thought the next best thing was my habitat and our connection to faeries (Dini brings them in regularly), and so came the name Cornish Fae and Pixie Dust – because lets face it, who couldn’t use more pixie dust in their life? 😉
So here we have my blog, all about my creative projects from clothes to gifts and my connection with the local Cornish Fae who give me lots of inspiration for my other business which is Angel Chakra – where I offer spiritual guidance & healing sessions and make gorgeous (hey, I’m biased! :D) space clearing and chakra balancing sprays to uplift your mind, body, spirit and environment – and let the spirit of the faeries in, even if it is impossible for you to get outside. I mix everything up here in this blog (and soon to be shop too! Watch this space! :D) where it is all about crafting and kids (trying to be a mum and a crafter and not losing sight of what you love to do or who you are in your heart), plus any other insights that take my fancy along the way 🙂
If you’ve read this far – thank you! I tend to ramble a fair bit, but I think it’s because I’m into so many different things that I find it very difficult to focus on one thing at a time, so I just talk about everything! 😀 I hope you can find some inspiration for your own creative projects by looking at mine 🙂 I would love to hear your comments too and promise to reply to every one 😀
Love and blessings and a sprinkling of pixie dust!
